At the beginning of our project, some scribbles were to be drawn to define the style of the planned anime and game and to create a concrete vision of our project. It was especially important for us to determine how the protagonist, Morihei Ueshiba, should look like.
So we started by picking out different anime and manga styles and transferring the look of our protagonist to those styles. We mainly worked with a drawing tablet and the image editing program Photoshop.
We had to experiment with as many different styles as possible, from more realistic to more childlike, simple representations of the character.

Because every anime and manga has its own unique style, there were hardly any specific style designations that we could stick to.

Therefore we often orientated ourselfs on characters from already existing anime and manga, like “Megalobox”, “Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress”, “Pokémon”, “Jojo’s Adventure”, or even “Avatar: the Last Airbender” and many more

The same applied to other potential characters, such as Morihei’s son, Kisshomaru, …

his wife, Hatsu, …

… or a young student of Morihei.

After some scribbles were made, the whole group decided by mutual agreement on a more realistic style.

Next, we had to make scribbles of backgrounds that would further visualize our idea of anime and game, and show the characters in their environment. We orientated myself by locations that played a major role in the life of Morihei Ueshiba, such as the Iwama Dojo.
